One Tomato

Stage 1

In 3 stages I´ll teach you how to have your own Tomato orchard, it is easy, cheap and delicious. I chose the Beefsteak Tomato, but according to my grandma and some videos I saw the steps are for any kind, so make your selection and follow this post.

Shopping List
 
Tomato Seeds, you can use any tomato seeds, but only if they are not transgenic, otherwise nothing will grow. If you prefer to buy them, with only one envelope will be enough each one has more or less 100 seeds.


Soil and Humus, they best is to approach to a place specialized on plants (in Mexico City we call this places as "viveros") or go to a colossal market and buy Vigoro brand for the soil.

For the Humus I ignore which brands might exist on your country, but I was told to have Earthworm Humus, this will nurture the seed and later on the roots of the tomato plant.(See the picture with my cat)


BioCups, to plant the seeds you need a transparent plastic cup (to have direct sunlight) or recycled paper cups that might interfere the sunlight, but will make easier the transplanting from the cup to a bigger container. Either way, before anything they need to have at least 4 holes at the bottom laterals in an equidistant location to absorb water.

Big Tray, the tray has to be big enough to contain all cups. In every irrigation, you have to place a small uniform water layer to be absorbed trhough the cup´s holes.

Big Plastic Bag, this will create the green house effect.
