Sustainability

First of all...What is Sustainability?
According to EPA, Sustainability is everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly on our natural environment. This creates and maintains conditions of harmony between humans and nature fulfilling social, economic and other fields in a long time term.

To continue having the life we already have with the materials and resources we use, it´s important to take responsibility of our environment.

How can I help?
We all want to save baby sea wolves, end climate change and having more trees than buildings to finally save the entire world, but either we don´t know how or we forget about taking action.

  • Learn about current local problems
Start with your country, see what it needs, what it has, what is been wasted, then compare the results with your home and look for small projects that can be done in order to improve your quality life. Remember it is difficult to make a huge change from one day to another, start by simple stuff. Also you can subscribe to green organizations where you can donate (in Mexico one is ProNatura), volunteer and and look for professional´s point of view. I also suggest to look into networks full of ideas as it is TED I´ll be posting some along the semester.

  • Consume Wisely
There are many companies that call themselves as green compañies but the truth is they just change their light bulbs into leds. Let´s support the ones that do make a real change. Believe it or not, Nesspresso is an excellent example, their business is not only ecofriendly, but also they help farmers to develop their industry. Besides, who else has George Clooney in their campaign? See specifications and recycle points

  • Reduce your Carbon Footprint
Every person on this planet emits a certain amount of CO2 according to his way of living and it is called footprint because it is the impression left in Earth´s environment . Many pages have calculators and tips for reducing your emission. Calculate My Footprint.

  • Spread knowledge
How much are you willing to give for the world?
This was a question made by a professor in my Climate Changing class. It is not all about money, but a whole new way of thinking. Many people doesn´t have the enough education to realize not only the importance of the topic and it´s benefits, but also the need. This is a gossip that hasn´t take action, for that we need people and will.
We can´t expect to live in paradise when we can´t take care of it.
